wye oak - civilian

hailing from baltimore, jenn wasner (voc./guit.) and andy stack (drums/everything else) work together as wye oak since 2006. civilian will be their third full length release. thise time they had a "little" help from producer / engineer "john congleton".... who has worked with modest mouse, st. vincent, shearwarter and the thermals (just to name a few) in the past. musically "civilian" leads wye oak on a more rock oriented way, never losing track of their roots. there's still that "slowcore".... "folk'ish" feeling in some of the songs and it works perfectly together with their special musical arrangements. sure, there's some similarities to other bands that worked with congleton (especially shearwater) and at least to me they remind me of the national at parts.....and beach house (especially on "doubt", which could be a lost song from "teen dream")... but nevertheless....those similarities suit them pretty well. for sure one of the top albums in 2011 and for sure the one album that will lift wye oak in higher spheres. i am absolutely sure we'll see them on a lot of "best of 2011 lists" at the end of the year. amazing album!
