rating: sometimes it happens that you're listening to some long awaited album and while you're at listening you browse for similar artists.... well and then... sometimes you find artists you have heard of, but never ever listened to. this happened to me with "dutch uncles" while i was pre-listening to the new foals album. well, what can i say.... shame on me, because dutch uncles' album "out of touch in the wild" is a masterpiece! this mix of math-pop'ish sounds with pianos, guitars, glockenspiel, a great leading voice and influences that vary from electropop to 80s post punk make this album a real highlight in early 2013. at parts dutch uncles remind me of foals and friendly fires mixed with hot chip and/or two door cinema club (especially on "bellio", "fester" and "godboy"), while the amazing "phaedra" sounds like a tori amos song, sung by a male version of tori. oh and then there's "threads" wich sounds like a modern version of some 80s post punk song by legendaries "xtc". i can't decide which are my favourite songs, because the album itself is a highlight. if you haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, you should really do!
10/10 (must have!!!) (sascha)  /// 9/10 (n.e.)
